Memorial Day Activities Scheduled
Memorial Day Revitalization Committee will continue its efforts this year
to restore the Millersburg Memorial
Day Parade to the stature that it had in years past. The committee, along with
the Blaine G. Walter VFW Post No. 5507 and the Steven R. Day American Legion
Post No. 326, will host the event.
The committee encourages churches, civic organizations and area youth to take
part in the parade to honor and recognize the importance of those who have and
are serving our country and in particular, those who have made the ultimate
The revitalization was the vision of Lou Jane Miller who reflected often on the
days when the Millersburg
Memorial Day Parade was a major event, bringing the community together in a
spirit of patriotism, pride and love for one another.
uncle, Blaine G. Walter, was an early military casualty of World War II. He died
at the Battle of Guadalcanal, and the local VFW post is named in his honor.
The activities will be held Monday, May 29. There will be designated
year, the long anticipated unveiling of the Veterans Banners will be held at
8:30 a.m. The fire alarm will sound to signify the unveiling. All
banner sponsors will receive an email stating where their banner will be placed
prior to May 29th.
Banners applications will be taken until April 17, 2017 and are available at
the Weis Store in Millersburg.
Free coffee and donuts will be available at Williams French Fries on the square
from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and Vocalist Pirjo Mace will
perform at this time.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at the Gazebo, with patriotic music including
the Millersburg High
School Band, Lenkerville
Elementary Students and the Voice of Democracy winners. Seating for veterans
will be available.
The keynote speaker is Millersburg
native Britt Isenburg.
Also this year, there will be a Childrens/Baby
Parade with prizes awarded
for ages birth to age 12. First prize is $200;
Second prize is $100;
and Third prize is $50; and

692-4954. The parade contestants must be Patriotic in nature.
All children who participate in the parade including Lenkerville Students will
receive coupons for a free hot dog, drink and ice cream to be redeemed at
Williams French Fries for that day.
The parade will follow the services and will be under the direction of Parade
Marshals Dave and Ted Fralick. All
