JOB DESCRIPTION – PUBLIC WORKS WORKER for MILLERSBURG BOROUGH

The specific job functions and responsibilities of the Public Works Worker shall be determined by Council and shall be included in a job description for the position which is subject to changes upon the majority vote of Council

JOB FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Public Works Worker shall perform various standard tasks using a wide variety of manual and powered equipment which may include backhoe, street sweeper, chipper, tamper and hand tools.

The Public Works Worker shall repair curbing, storm sewers, sidewalks, catch basins and road surfaces.

The Public Works Worker shall perform basic care and trimming of trees within the Borough’s responsibility.

The Public Works Worker shall identify and resolve Public Works issues and concerns in a timely manner and report corrective action to the Borough Manager.

The Public Works Worker shall fabricate, install, maintain and replace all signage utilized within the Borough for traffic, park and street identification.

The Public Works Worker shall operate spray paint equipment to stripe and paint crosswalks, curbing and signs

The Public Works Worker shall operate street sweeping, snow plowing and leaf picking equipment on all streets within the Borough according to established routes and procedures.

The Public Works Worker shall in the absence of Borough Manager, may perform portions of that position as assigned.

The Public Works Worker must possess a valid Pennsylvania State drivers license.

The Public Works Worker shall perform work in accordance with all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations and within mandated and appropriate safety standards.

The Public Works Worker shall perform street sealing, crack repair, pothole repair and minor street repair functions.

The Public Works Worker shall place and retrieve barricades, lane cones and other traffic directional devices for emergency and event control.

The Public Works Worker shall select materials and tools needed to perform work assignments and return all tools and equipment to Public Works garage areas at the completion of the work shift.  .

Worksites and garage areas will be safely secured at the completion of the work shift.

The Public Works Worker shall use portable radios to communicate with other public works workers and Borough Manager.

The Public Works Worker shall keep the Borough Manager and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.

The Public Works Worker shall attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions and review publications to become and remain current on principals, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.

The Public Works Worker shall train new employees in the operation of equipment and safety practice.

The Public Works Worker shall be required to respond to after hours calls for emergencies that involve the Borough.

The Public Works Worker shall perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment and tools as required.

The Public Works Worker shall perform maintenance to Borough park areas that will include, but not limited to mowing, trimming, cutting, spraying of vegetation, trash removal and snow removal on sidewalks.

The Public Works Worker shall assist in the preparation and cleanup for special events that may occur in the Borough as required.

The Public Works Worker shall open and close public access areas as required, such as public rest rooms, recycling area, and other Borough facilities.  Restroom cleaning and replenishing of supplies will be at the direction of the Borough Manager.

The Public Works Worker shall perform specialty tasks as assigned by the Borough Manager. (i.e. parking meter repair, computer installation)

The Public Works Worker shall perform general maintenance to the Borough’ buildings and facilities that will include but not limited to painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical.

The Public Works Worker shall perform work assignments in a professional, expeditious and safe manner.

The Public Works Worker shall report all accidents, to self and/or property, and safety concerns to the Borough Manager within 4 hours of the incident.

The Public Works Worker shall have a working knowledge of map and blueprint reading.

The Public Works Worker shall represent the Borough of Millersburg in a professional manner.

The Public Works Worker shall perform related, similar, or other logical duties as assigned by the Borough Manager and/or Borough Council and may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in this job description
